One Product, Two Ways
I shared the photo above on instagram the other day.
I love products that can be used in more ways than one!
So, I thought it would be fun to share two projects I made using the one acrylic piece from the Studio Calico Galileo scrapbook kit.
Before using the acrylic piece as an embellishment on a layout, I decided to first, use it as a mask to create my own custom patterned paper.
In theory, the acrylic piece would be easy to clean since it's slick and non-porous. I decided to put the theory into action by using the darkest colored mist I own, Mister Huey's Inky Black. Go big, or go home, right?
After misting the acrylic piece over a sheet of white cardstock several times, I quickly wiped it with a paper towel and rinsed it off with water. The acrylic piece was white as snow in 5 seconds. Easy peasy.
Here it is, being used as an embellishment, after being misted with black ink...
and here's another project, using the misted cardstock as the background paper...
I added a few stamped camera images from the Saturn add-on kit stamp set to further emphasize the photography theme of the layout.
My new "photograph" patterned paper was perfect to document my daughter's newfound interest in photography.
Finding new ways to use products from the kits you receive will help stretch your products and ensure you're getting the most bang for your buck. Not to mention, it's a great exercise in creativity.
I hope you'll try this technique out the next time you come across a great acrylic embellishment. And if you have any ideas for extending product usage, I'd love to hear in the comments!
Otherwise, tell me, when was the last time you used mists on a project? I love mists and masks. Note to self to use them more often!
