Do What Makes You Happy - a scrapbook layout using Kelly Purkey stamps
I really liked the stamps sets from the two kits offered in Kelly's January shop release and thought they paired quite well together. So in an effort to use as many of the stamps from these two sets as possible, on the same project, I chose a few of my favorite images and arranged them on my stamp block.
Once I was happy with the stamp arrangement, I stamped the block, alternating the direction of the pattern, on white cardstock.
The top portion of the page was left blank to let the eyes rest a little from the heavy, graphic pattern.
When choosing the photo for this layout, I took two things into account...
First, since the background was neutral, I knew the photo would be colored. I love the way colored photos pop off of neutral-colored backgrounds. And vice versa. I think a black and white photo always looks great against a colorful background. I like the balance.
Second, because the background was busy, with lots of smaller images, I knew a photo with a large subject would look best. This photo of my daughter and I fit the bill perfectly.
Here's a look at the final layout...
The title and journaling heart were cut from the cards in the High Five Kit. It was actually serendipitous that those arrows all pointed to that one spot and I knew the title would end up going there. Love when that happens!
When putting together projects where my starting points are the product and design, I'm able to choose my photos and journaling quicker than if I were to use another starting point. The choices are narrowed down for me and my process is more streamlined, which means I'm getting our stories told with more efficiency. I like that.
That's not to say I don't have a long list of stories I want to tell in a notebook somewhere...
So that's it for this week.
I'm looking forward to the long weekend ahead! Hoping for lots of great, sunny weather here!
Have a good one!
